Pivoting- Steps to Success, Straight From A Shark

bustairs

Navigating change can be challenging, we all know that to be true. Major adjustments can be true tests of your sanity, yet sometimes, a slight shift or pivot, can prove just as harrowing (like a steep set of stairs when your legs are already shaky). At the end of the day, we’re all just doing the best that we can. Sometimes missing perfect by a ten mile stretch, other times finding ourselves on the complete opposite end, cheek to cheek with an outcome that is truly amazing.

I recently read the latest book by entrepreneur, maverick, natty dresser and Shark Tank star, Robert Herjavec, titled You Don’t Have to Be a Shark: Creating Your Own Success and enjoyed it. It was a quick read and offered a pretty diverse playbook of business tactics that Herjavec has used and prospered with, however, it was his tips on pivoting that were what I held on to the most. Simple, straightforward steps that focus inward. Here, Herjavec’s list of ten things to do when navigating change in your personal or professional life…

10 Things to Do When Navigating Change

  1. Be disciplined– develop and maintain a work ethic.
  2. Be focused– concentrate on the task at hand; the greater the challenge, the sharper the focus.
  3. Be competitive– welcome competition and accept that life rarely offers something of value that someone else will not try to get for themselves.
  4. Be resourceful– use every asset available to you.
  5. Be passionate– the more you believe in your product and yourself, the more successful you’ll become.
  6. Be critically minded– assume the attitude that lets you “think outside the box” when needed.
  7. Be persistent– prepare yourself to hear no, but never let it discourage you.
  8. Be curious– look for new ways to learn about customers, their concerns, their business, and their personalities.
  9. Be confident– without being arrogant.
  10. Be happy– to to be the source of joy for others; more than almost any other personal quality, this will attract others to you.
