With summer in full swing, many of us are taking a much-needed break to rejuvenate and recharge. But for most of us, that vacation relaxation is gone the moment we step back into our crazy daily routines.
That should come as no surprise considering that our bodies are being exposed to stressors on multiple fronts. With 61% of people considering themselves addicted to the Internet, the pressure of constantly of keeping up with emails, texts and social media can cause both anxiety and brain drain. Combine that with increased internal inflammation caused by the food we eat and the air we breathe, it’s no wonder that we are so often exhausted!
But now there may be ways to lessen the effects of our daily grind. Thanks to the booming health and wellness industry, many brands have introduced new and scientifically proven ways to detox and therefore de-stress the body. So even if you just returned from vacation paradise, check out these exciting innovations that will help you look and feel better all year long.
DIGITAL DETOX. The wireless world has exploded. There are approximately 7 billion mobile phone subscriptions worldwide and Wi-Fi is everywhere. All of these devices emit electromagnetic radiation and we are immersed in it 24 hours a day. Here are two ways to offset the effects:
SmartDOT. According to Phi harmonics, makers of energyDOTS, we are living in an environment estimated to contain 10 billion times more radio frequency radiation than it did in the Sixties. Although this radiation is invisible and imperceptible, it is not necessarily harmless, especially to those who are electrosensitive. Health effects of this so called ‘electro-stress’ can include headaches, low energy and anxiety. Applied directly to your phone and computer SmartDOTs provide an easy and affordable way to help offset the effects of our daily bombardment of electromagnetic frequencies. As someone who suffers from headaches, I’m giving this one a try!
Camp Grounded. We’ve discussed the importance of unplugged toys for kids, but here’s a new idea – digital detox camp for adults! Camp Grounded is where campers from over 30 states and 8+countries get away for an off-the-grid weekend of unplugged fun – no computers or cell phones allowed. Sign me up for summer please!
POLLUTION PROTECTION. Information analyzed from NASA satellites suggests that more than 80% of the world’s population breathe polluted air that exceeds the World Health Organization’s recommended level. And according to the EPA, scientific studies show that some pollutants can cause cardiovascular and respiratory harm even at very low levels. So with those facts in mind, it’s no surprise that pollution protection continues to be a focus. Here’s what’s hot now:
Catalytic Clothing. This super cool, sci-fi sounding development is a laundry detergent with the ability to transform clothing into a catalytic surface that could purify the air we breathe. Brainchild of artist/designer Helen Storey and chemist Tony Ryan, according to the website, Catalytic Clothing is currently with the Research and Development departments of major laundry brands.
Halotherapy (AKA dry salt therapy). The negatively charged, dry salt particles are absorbed through the skin and into the lungs to help improve respiratory health. If you can’t get to an actual Himalayan salt cave, try turning your bath into a therapeutic Himalayan Bath Soak.
Skin Laundry. Pollution takes its toll on our skin, too, with new studies showing pollution to be almost as aging as UV rays. The increasingly small particles of air pollution are better able to penetrate the skin, driving a demand for more advanced cleansing systems. Skin Laundry is well positioned to take on this challenge, offering a laser treatment that deep cleans the skin by removing dirt, bacteria and pollutants.
NATURAL CLEANSE. I’ve shared my belief in the benefits of nutraceuticals, and now brands like Pressed Juicery are offering detoxifying drinks containing activated charcoal, which binds to toxins and helps eliminate them from the body. This is a great way to help cleanse and rejuvenate the body, especially if you combine it with a little detox yoga for good measure!
